Skopje generates approximately 200,000 tons of municipal solid waste per year, with a per capita rate of roughly 350 kg annually. The recycling rate remains below 5%, far behind the EU average of ~48%. The vast majority of waste ends up in the Drisla landfill southeast of the city.
